#8. Witchikurafuto Wakusu / Witch Craft Works

Witch Anime - Witchikurafuto Wakusu / Witch Craft Works

Honoka Takamiya is an ordinary student who, unbeknownst to him initially, has a witch in his life named Ayaka Kagari. The presence of the idol seems to only make things worse for Honoka and he learns one day that she was in fact a witch sent there by fate as part of her duty.

He also learned about some evil forces out to get him–and so on goes their journey together with its ups and downs until they are able both protect themselves from afar through magic spells while still maintaining peace within each other’s company (though it can be quite exhausting at times).

It’s not your typical romance anime but what Witch Craft Works lacks in love triangles or complicated relationships among the characters – instead of focusing more on the magic that brings them together – it makes up for with its compelling storyline and fantastic animation.

#4. Hauru no Ugoku Shiro

Witch Anime - Hauru no Ugoku Shiro

Hauru no Ugoku Shiro is a classic. Right off the bat, if you haven’t watched this Ghibli movie, you definitely should! It’s so magical and it will make your day go by like nothing else.

The film takes some of its inspiration from the 1986 novel “Howl’s Moving Castle” written by Diana Wynne Jones – not to mention all those other Miyazaki classics as well (The Cat Returns? Spirited Away?).

You might have seen glimpses of Sophie in Howl’s moving castle before- she was turned into a witch after an old woman cursed her for being nosy when walking past her home on the market day back in the 20th-century kingdom where magic and technology are side-by-side with each other.

“The movie appeals to Western audiences due to the style of characterization making it accessible for audiences outside of Japan.”
