Elvis’ prescription medication consumption increased as their divorce and separation procedure dragged on, according to Priscilla in Elvis by the Presleys. Additionally, Elvis’ tough live tour schedule became so demanding that he began to rely more heavily on prescription narcotics to get through each night. “His longtime battle with sleep was seriously aggravated,” Priscilla alleged. “His reliance on medications — to ward off the blues or just provide him with the energy to go through the day – became more intense.”
While Priscilla claimed that she should have seen Elvis’ problems coming, she was preoccupied with her newfound freedom and the responsibilities of caring for Lisa Marie.

It was at that very time that Priscilla realized the gravity of Elvis’s failing health and increasing drug usage. Unfortunately, she was correct. Elvis’ health and well-being deteriorated continuously until his tragic death in 1977. He was just 42 years old when he died.
