What to Do in Portland This Winter

If you are visiting Portland this winter, and you haven’t visited this area of the country during the colder months before, you may be wondering what there is to do during this time of the year. You may be the adventurous type who wants to spend time outdoors and try some new winter sports.

Or maybe you prefer to stay warm, stay inside, and try some new things in Portland. Either way, the city, and surrounding areas have so much to offer during this season of the year.

Here’s what to do in Portland this winter:

Spend Time Outdoors

What To Do in Portland This Winter Outside?

If you love outdoor recreation, there will be plenty for you to do in Portland in winter. Just a short 90 minute ride from Portland is Mt. Hood and Mt Hood Meadows, a resort on the southeastern front of the mountain. Between the mountain and the resort, there are so many great opportunities to get moving outside and partake in winter sports.

You can snowboard or ski, as well as hike at Mt. Hood Meadows. You can also snowshoe to Tamanawas Falls near the eastern base of Mt. Hood. Nearby, you can also try snowshoeing or sledging at Timberline Lodge. Another interesting winter sport to try in Portland is fat tire biking in the snow in Mt. Hood National Forest. Whatever outdoor winter activity you prefer, you will be able to enjoy it in Portland.

Stay Inside

If you still want to include some movement in your day during your stay in Portland, but you prefer to be inside, try ice skating at Lloyd Center Ice Rink. The ice rink is located in Lloyd Center, which is a shopping mall in the city.

If you prefer something more laid back, try a brewery tour. Portland is known for the quality of its locally crafted brews, and most breweries offer tours and tastings. Some of the most popular breweries to check out in Portland include Level Beer, Breakside Brewery, and Upright Brewing. You can also catch an NBA game and cheer on the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center.

There are also great dining opportunities throughout the city. If you want to spend some time in the mountains without necessarily spending time doing winter sports outdoors, you can rent a cabin near Mt. Hood.
