Bryce Harper, a hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies and the current NL MVP, broke his left thumb during a game against the San Diego Padres on Saturday at Petco Park.

After taking a 97 mph fastball from Blake Snell to the hand, Harper left the game right away.

It goes without saying that losing Harper for even a short period of time would be catastrophic for a Phillies club attempting to advance to the postseason.
