Valerie Anne Bertinelli (born April 23, 1960) is an actress from the United States. She has received two Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for her work in television acting and presenting. She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012.
Nancy (née Carvin) and Andrew Bertinelli, a GM executive, raised Bertinelli in Wilmington, Delaware. Her father is of Italian ancestry, while her mother is English. David, Patrick, and Drew are her three brothers. Before she was born, her older brother, Mark, died from accidental poisoning at the age of 17 months.
At the 1991 Emmy Awards, Bertinelli was seen alongside Eddie Van Halen.
In 1981, Bertinelli married Eddie Van Halen.
Wolfgang was their son (born March 16, 1991). Bertinelli is supposed to have named her lone kid “Bob Van Halen” rather than something more Americanized. The pair divorced on December 20, 2007, after splitting up in 2001. Bertinelli stated in her memoirs that her divorce was caused by her husband’s cocaine addiction and his reluctance to quit smoking despite being diagnosed with oral cancer and losing a third of his tongue during treatment.
Valerie Bertinelli’s Real Reason for Divorce:
The document was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court the day before Thanksgiving by the Hot in Cleveland and Food Network personality. Bertinelli states the date of separation as “TBD,” according to paperwork acquired by ET. She married Vitale on January 1, 2011, and the couple has no minor children. Bertinelli wants the court’s authority to grant both of them support to be taken away.
Bertinelli also claims that the formal separation is due to “irreconcilable disputes.” She also mentions a “totally binding on the parties” prenuptial agreement dated Dec. 21, 2010.
At Valerie Bertinelli’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2012, she was joined by Thomas Martin Vitale.

Bertinelli confessed on the Today show in early January that she has been struggling after the death of her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen in October 2020. Since the rock star’s death, she remarked, “it’s been tough” and “quite bittersweet.”
“It’s difficult,” she said. “… I’ve texted [Eddie] a couple of dozen times. ‘Oh no, I can’t text him right now,’ it’s like.”
Bertinelli and Van Halen married in 1981, but split up in 2001, eventually divorcing in 2007. Wolfgang, their now 29-year-old son, was born in 1991. Following their separation, Bertinelli and Van Halen remained friends.

The former One Day at a Time star stated in her much-anticipated biography that the epidemic made her and Vitale realize their marriage was in peril.
“We’ve broken up,” she wrote. “Fissures in the relationship occurred years earlier, and the lockout prompted a serious review of priorities, as it did for virtually everyone I know… In order to find greater joy, I need to recognize and let go of concepts and behaviors that no longer serve me, and one of those things is my 11-year marriage to Tom.”
The Food Network presenter made it clear that the decision to divorce was not taken lightly.
“It was a long, difficult choice,” she continued. “However, we have strayed from the interests that brought us together and discovered that our differences are irreversible.” He is a wonderful man who is dealing with many of the same problems that I am… The roads we believed we were on shift… For him, I simply want the best.”
After Their Divorce, Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli Remained Friends.
Despite the fact that Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli divorced in 2007, they remained close friends and successfully co-parented their son Wolfgang. Van Halen even brought his ex-wife and mother of his kid to his wedding to Janie Liszewski in 2009, according to People. The marriage was officiated by Van Halen’s brother Alex, and their son Wolfgang served as ring bearer. What a family gathering! According to People, Van Halen reciprocated in 2011 by attending Bertinelli’s wedding to their second spouse Tom Vitale.
But make no mistake: Van Halen and Bertinelli aren’t just any old buddies. They also stood by each other during difficult times. According to the Vancouver Sun, Bertinelli paid repeated visits to her ex-husband while he was undergoing cancer treatment. According to a source, Bertinelli was extremely attentive to Van Halen during his time of need. “She was always cleaning Eddie up, fixing his tie, or helping him comb his hair while they were together. That is how she is. And I believe she believes Eddie requires it right now “said the source
