Peaky Blinders season 6 premiered on Sunday, February 27, with Tommy Shelby and his Birmingham gang once again taking over our lives.
Shelby (Cillian Murphy) puts a gun to his own head at the end of Season 5, and the next season shows why he didn’t kill himself.
Season five of the BBC One series was the highest watched season to date, so it was no surprise that we secured a sixth season.
But, will there be a seventh season, and what is the show’s future? Here’s what we know so far.
Will There Be Peaky Blinders Season 7?
Peaky Blinders fans will be disappointed to learn that the sixth season will be the show’s final season.
The BAFTA-winning series was announced to be ending in January, while show creator Steven Knight told PA in 2019 that he will begin scripting season seven immediately after finishing the sixth.
However, there is some good news: the Shelby gang’s narrative does not appear to stop with season six, with Knight stating that a Peaky Blinders film will be made.
Speaking about the future of the period gangster drama to Deadline, Knight said:
“We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”
“But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”
Peaky Blinders Season 7 Storyline And Plot
There isn’t much information available right now about what plotlines we may anticipate seeing in the Peaky Blinders film, or even what year it would be set in.
However, Knight’s words imply that some of it may take place during WWII.
In 2018, Knight stated that he intended to make further seasons of Peaky Blinders.
“a story of a family between two wars, so I always wanted to end it with the first air raid siren in 1939”
He did, however, indicate that plans had changed, explaining:
“I have revised the scope of what it is. It will now go into and beyond the Second World War.”
Peaky Blinders Season 7 Cast, Crew And Shooting Start Date
You might have some time to watch the Peaky Blinders film. During a BFI London Film Festival discussion, Knight revealed that the film will begin production in Birmingham in 2023.
Last January, he told Variety:
“We are in development. It’s a fully formed idea and it has a beginning, middle and end. And I think it’s going to be a fitting conclusion to the story told so far.”
With this timeframe, it appears that the film will not be released until 2024, but no official dates have been revealed as of yet.
Peaky Blinders Season 7 Confirmed Or Cancelled?
According to Knight in late 2021.
The movie “will probably be the sort of the end of the road for Peaky Blinders as we know it”
He did, however, imply that there might be spin-offs inspired by and using Peaky characters.
“There will be other TV shows that I hope will come out of [it], that will continue to tell the story of this part of society and this family.”
There’s no word on what these possible shows might be. However, Knight did indicate that at least one adaptation is already in the works.
Knight will stage Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, a dance production in the Peaky Blinders universe, in association with Rambert Production, Birmingham Hippodrome, and The Lowry, beginning in September 2022.
Benoit Swan Pouffer will direct and choreograph the show, which will purportedly follow “Tommy Shelby and Grace Burgess through their passionate love story.”
